What is Resin Flooring?
Resin Flooring is essentially adding a resin coating to a floor, consisting of a synthetic resin (that has been preformulated) together with a separate hardener.
When performance demands are intensified, which typically results in the resin floor thickness increasing, the number of ingredients increases and now can include decorative flakes or chips, pigments, aggregates, and sometimes also cement powder. For thicker resin floor types you can fully expect them to be harder than concrete.
The majority of resin flooring utilises a primer. The primer reacts with or penetrates into the substrate. This then creates a reliable, high-strength bond – a bond that is essential in terms of the floor’s longevity. Normally, the primer is followed by the key structural layer. This layer is frequently known as the body coat.
The key structural layer establishes the major part of the floor’s thickness and also provides an array of important performance elements such as flexibility, impact resistance, and compressive strength. This structural layer defines the floor’s decorative finish.
For the most part, resin floors are completed with between one and three seal coats. This encapsulates the floor’s decorative element and the body coat. In turn, it provides the floor’s individual performance characteristics: for example, high resistance to wear and chemical spillage.

– Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)
